Ideas & opportunities for future focused civic leaders...
Hi all,
Major book milestone!
Future Philanthropy: The Tech, Trends & Talent Defining New Civic Leadership today went to print! You can pre-order your copy now and in the next week or so I will be sharing details about my upcoming book tour (both in-person & virtual) and a range of other opportunities to get involved beyond simply reading this 360 page ode to the potential of the social sector & the change makers that work within it.
Today we also kicked off our ‘Rising Stars in Philanthropy’ segment over at the Future Philanthropy blog, speaking to Meena Das who is a people-driven Fundraising Analytics Consultant based in Canada. Check out her future feature below & please feel free to nominate others who’s work should be highlighted in an upcoming piece!

Who We’re Missing - Nancy Jamison
We lost one of the really good ones recently, a shining light and someone who really helped ignite my career. It has all left me feeling a little melancholy tbh. A friend and mentor, it was Nancy who let me ‘be me’ in the workplace and if it wasn’t for her my book wouldn’t have become a reality. I’ll miss her wise counsel and authenticity. There are lots of other superlatives I could use, but for now I’ll just reflect on the positive impact she had on my life & that of many, many others. Many of whom she never met but would’ve touched through her actions. Vale NJ.
My former workplace, Catalyst of San Diego & Imperial Counties (formerly San Diego Grantmakers) is housing the launch of a fund that Nancy's friends and colleagues have established in her honor to continue her critical work of racial and social justice. Contribute to or learn more about the fund here > https://catalystsd.org/nancy/
What I’m Writing
The social sector as a champion for a new 35 hour work week (6 min read)
We used to think about what we would do with the extra two hours we would get back from not having to commute to work each day. Due to COVID and the ensuing acceleration of automation and workplace expectations it might now be time that we think about that extra hour through the lens of a 7 hour work day - A concept that could be trialed within an industry that is due to exponentially grow due to further societal/digital advances - the nonprofit sector.
When data connects more than just the dots… (4 min read)

What I’m Sharing
Fundraising Webinar: On August 19 I will be joining Fundmetric CEO, Mark Hobbs to chat about what we both think the future might hold for philanthropy. If you want a sneak peek at the ideas I've been writing in my book this is the webinar to watch. Let's look to the next decade, anticipate future trends, and prepare ourselves to lay the groundwork for their successful adoption. I have had some very candid chats with Mark over the past year and am pretty certain that candor and optimism for the future of fundraising will be boil over into our chat next month!
Tech Grants: $26,000. Thirteen Winners.
Pond helps nonprofit leaders find & fund the tools to power their mission, and are now giving our nonprofits an extra boost. Their new Launch Pad initiative is a sweepstakes of $2,000 Pond bonuses to "launch" the impact of 13 different nonprofits.
Any member that refers at least one other nonprofit to join qualifies. The more referrals, the greater your chances of winning!
Sector Survey: Our friends at UpMetrics are currently running a survey to inform an analysis of how funders and grantees consider three key areas: metrics and reporting, capacity and collaboration. All three are key for strong, trust-based relationships that power more effective philanthropic initiatives.
This survey should not take more than 5 minutes to complete. Click here to participate.
They are also hiring three Full-Stack Software Engineers for their innovative (& growing!) platform. If you know of anyone who might be interested please let me know and I’ll put in a good word :)
